NTPC Centre for Advanced Neurosurgery

The NTPC Centre for Advanced Neurosurgery at the Tata IISc Medical School has been established with generous support from National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The centre addresses India’s critical gap in advanced neurological care by combining cutting-edge neurosurgery, research, and rehabilitation to tackle the nation’s growing burden of neurological disorders.
Main objectives

Provide High-Quality Neurosurgical Care
Offer comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of complex neurological
disorders.

Conduct Advanced Research and Development
Undertake clinical and translational research in areas such as brain tumors, spinal disorders, epilepsy, neurovascular diseases, and neurotrauma. Collaborate with biomedical engineering and neuroscience departments for innovation in neurosurgical tools and procedures.

Procure State-of-the-art equipment
MRI Machines, Ceiling Mounted Body Brain Robot, Functional Proprioceptive Stimulation Device, Mechanical Gait Trainer with Harness, Portable CT Scanner-Cranial, Surgical Microscope, Virtual Reality Rehabilitation Unit
12 Camera Gait & Motion Analysis lab with Force plate and many more

Promote Clinical Excellence and Innovation
Implement and continuously upgrade the use of state-of-the-art technologies such as neuronavigation, intraoperative MRI, and robotics. Develop and refine new surgical protocols for various neurosurgical conditions.

Enhance Education and Training
Train neurosurgeons, residents, and allied health professionals through structured academic and hands-on training programs.

Establishing transformative technologies
3.0 Tesla Research MRI System for ultra-high resolution and high-speed neuroimaging for mapping brain networks; 1.5 Tesla Intraoperative MRI System for real-time brain imaging during surgery, eliminating guesswork and improving tumour removal rates; Portable CT Scanner – Cranial for provides instant, high-resolution brain imaging directly in the operating room or ICU and many more!
